Singapore Open Media Art Festival (SOMAF) is a 3-day video art event held at various locations within Gillman Barracks, and marks the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and South Korea. With the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports in Korea, Arts Council Korea, National Arts Council Singapore and corporate sponsors, 6 curators from South Korea and Singapore and 40 international artists will put together this public project.
In particular, SOMAF will explore the entwined journeys of the two nations towards miraculous economic growth while centred on the theme - “The Moment of Karma.” This theme signifies the law of causality where a moment, a choice or a deed can affect the future and how we perceive the world around us.
Also under SOMAF, one of the videos titled My Window, will be an open call project that allows members of the public to submit their own video clips. Thereafter, a team of Korean artists and filmmakers will select and edit the clips, with the final production being showcased during the festival. (More details to be announced shortly)
So come enjoy the festival in the cool of the evening at Gillman Barracks!
