CURATOR'S PANEL DISCUSSION

Session 1: New Ecologies of Art
Speakers: David Elliott, Kwok Kian Chow, Charles Merewether

In recent years, Asia has witnessed the rapid expansion of the art market as well as a glut of cultural infrastructure projects. These include the National Art Gallery and Gillman Barracks in Singapore, the West Kowloon Cultural District and the Central Police Station in Hong Kong, as well as projects in China such as the Yellow River Arts Centre in Yinchuan. The panel examines the development of cultural production in Asia in light of these developments and their impact on the ecologies of art in the region.

Session 2: Art Histories in Asia
Speakers: Patrick Flores, Hou Hanru, Wee Wan Ling
Moderator: Michael Walsh

Given the new ecologies of art emerging in Asia, how is art being discussed and understood? This phenomena as well as how critical discourse and art histories are being formed in the region will be examined by the speakers in this session.
