FERMENTED IN INDONESIA
07 May 2014 - 22 Jun 2014

The concept of “FERMENTED IN INDONESIA” is related to the discovery and the development of the Indonesian contemporary art scene. Cultural diversities, local traditions, social and political conditions of the nation help to shape the identity of artists and their signature styles.

As a nation with numerous indigenous cultures, concepts and practices of art have always been primary to the development of Indonesia's identity. Western culture is one of the most notable influences to the evolution of Indonesia's contemporary art. Adoration towards the West has inspired Indonesian artists to attempt to catch up to international standards by incorporating Western artistic know hows and applying them to the local concepts and philosophy.

Through this process that has been going on for almost 600 years, Indonesian artists have unwittingly discovered their own authentic form of art. The result is unique to Indonesian contemporary art's identity.

Visitors can expect to see works by leading Indonesian contemporary artists, including Heri Dono, Nasirun, Entang Wiharso, Angki Purbandono, Indieguerillas and many more.
