Exhibition
looping loopholes
24 Apr 2015 - 28 Jun 2015

Yeo Workshop has taken the innovative step to exhibit the impactful works of Bandung artists Duto Hardono, Muhammad Akbar, and Rizki Resa Utama (OQ). The exhibition complements the title, looping loopholes, with a conceptual twist. When confronted by the work, both visitors and artists alike are welcomed to question their own habits and mannerisms.

All three artists have exhibited extensively at home in Indonesia and abroad in group and solo shows in commercial galleries, artist-run spaces, art fairs and biennales. With Singapore’s ambition and aspirations to establish its place as a hub for cutting edge artworks and ideas, Yeo Workshop is pleased to be exhibiting such progressive artists.

looping loopholes is an exhibition devoted to video and sound installations. Naturally drawing on the mediums’ ability to function in cycles and hence complete the loop, the question lies in the perception of each viewer. Despite the artworks’ habit to orbit around itself, the work seems to differ every time you are confronted by it. Complimented by creative flair and a good sense of humour, the work demonstrates people’s interaction in relation to time and space. Whether the essence lies in questioning the known, or re-introducing yourself to former societal norms, the work simply complies with its viewer’s curiosity. In an attempt to breach the discretion between private and public, the work openly invites everyone to find out what it means for themselves.

Duto Hardono (Jakarta, 1985) received his BFA & MFA from the painting studio in ITB (Institute of Technology Bandung, Indonesia). Muhammad Akbar (Bandung, 1984) studied French literature at the Indonesia University of Education in Bandung, and further received his MFA from ITB. Rizki Resa Utama (better known as OQ; Bandung, 1982) studied visual communication at Padjajaran University in Bandung, and after completion moved to Braunschweig, Germany, for his BFA and MFA.
