PRESS RELEASE: DOWNLOAD

Merryn J Trevethan brings the artist’s studio to life in HUFF (House Under Four Flags). Located outside Block 1 of Gillman Barracks, HUFF was hand-built early in 2015 by artist/mining enthusiast/builder-architect Marcin Dudek, its form being inspired by the architecture of Gillman Barracks.  Dudek also conceived of HUFF as an artist residency space and a platform to engage the public.

For her residency programme, Trevethan will render HUFF both blank canvas and production space. She will use the tool of her own parallax eye, alongside unusual contextual positioning, to transform the perception of space via painting. She will activate the space and interact with the audience by conducting workshops including book making, printing and outdoor painting.

Merryn J Trevethan’s Real Space: Residency/ Exhibition/ Workshop is part of Exploring the Artist Studio: Design, Form & Function, where, together with Mike HJ Chang, the public is given access to the workings of the artist’s studio, and through it, the artist’s mind.

Merryn J Trevethan completed her MFA at Monash University. She has since exhibited widely in Australia, and participated at international residences, at Point B Worklodge in Williamsburg, New York and at Red Gate Gallery in Beijing, China. She was recently awarded first prize in the DRIVE Public Art Project Open Call competition for her work Accelerator City, and has also been selected as part of a group of five to work on a large-scale commission for Facebook’s new Singapore headquarters at South Beach Tower, Singapore.
