Inspired by the Chinese myth of the “Carp Leaping Over Dragon’s Gate” that told the story of a carp's seemingly impossible goal. Despite the adversities it faced it eventually leaped over the dragon gate successfully, turning into a dragon.

'Breakthough' presents an abstract carp breaking through the water surface, leaping towards its dream - with perseverance and courage, one can breakthrough adversities and achieve accomplishments.

About the artist
Chua Boon Kee is a Singapore-based sculptor who committed to becoming a full-time artist in 1996. He has a deep passion to fuse Chinese cultures and philosophies with his sculpting expression, leading to the creation of the prominent Chinese calligraphy sculpture series. He began exhibiting his works regularly from 2000, and has since created numerous private and public commissioned works.
