The motif of the open cage and the folding of the paper crane is inspired by the Japanese myth of senbazuru that suggests a person who folds 1000 cranes will be granted one wish by the gods. The artist brings one wish of long life or recovery from illness.

About the artist
Salleh Japar is currently a senior lecturer at LASALLE College of the Arts. Salleh’s research interest is in the field of locating and interpreting Southeast Asian aesthetics: its symbolic and structural readings of space and its influence on contemporary art practice (installation). His works often feature a combination of multiple contemporary media.
