How does corporate involvement in the arts industry reflect a brand, as well as a city’s cultural life? Nurturing the arts not only strengthens a sense of belonging and commitment to a specific place or region, but also ensures the growth of a city’s creativity, making it more attractive to businesses and their key stakeholders. In the case of Singapore, one of the world’s most advanced cities, the development of a vibrant art scene plays an essential role in building and maintaining a stimulating environment for work and play.
This intensive course will guide participants through the most recent activities of corporate art initiatives worldwide. Practising professionals will present case studies that provide insight into the global art scene and the potential of partnerships between corporations and art institutions for brand-building.
Christoph Noe (Germany/Hong Kong) is founder of The Ministry of Art, specialising in information on Chinese artists of the post-1970s and 1980s generation. In 2013, he co-founded Larry’s List, the leading art market knowledge company providing data, research, and access to contemporary art collectors. The company published the "Art Collector Report” (2015), the most comprehensive study on contemporary art collectors worldwide and the "Private Museum Report” (2016), a global overview on the landscape of privately founded contemporary art museums. Noe advises a number of brands including Rolls-Royce and Hugo Boss on their art engagements in Greater China. For Hugo Boss, he was involved in setting up the bi-annual Hugo Boss Asia Art Award in cooperation with the Shanghai-based Rockbund Art Museum.
Deborah Ehrlich (The Netherlands/Taiwan/Hong Kong) joined UBS in May 2016 as Regional Manager APAC for the UBS Art Collection, based out of Hong Kong. Prior to this Ehrlich acted as VIP Relations Manager APAC for Art Basel, where she was responsible for overseeing and expanding Asia’s VIP client activity and programming in Hong Kong, Basel, and Miami, as well as developing and implementing strategies and processes for the fair’s change from Art Hong Kong to Art Basel in 2013. Before joining Art Basel, Ehrlich worked in Client Development for Christie’s and Sotheby’s. Her education background includes an Art History degree from Boston College, as well as further studies at Sotheby’s Institute and Tsinghua University.
Charlotte Koh (Singapore) has over 15 years of experience in fundraising, corporate strategy, and international relations. In the area of philanthropy, Koh has raised funds for a variety of sectors ranging from social, higher education and now, the arts. As the Deputy Director of the Arts & Culture Development Office at the National Arts Council Singapore (NAC), she has forged strategic relationships with organisations, institutions, and individuals that has helped to raise the profile of arts philanthropy in Singapore. She is also the Secretariat of the Cultural Matching Fund at NAC. Koh has previously held senior roles at Community Chest and President's Challenge Secretariat, both part of the National Council of Social Service, and the National University Business School. Koh is an expert in raising major gifts, setting up of endowment gifts for legacy purposes, corporate social responsibility, and sponsorships.
Zong Han (China) lives and works in Shanghai, China. Currently Deputy Director of Fosun Foundation, he was previously the Deputy Development Director of Ullens Center for Contemporary Arts in Beijing, China. Zong Han’s first foray into the art world was through a fellowship from Carnegie Mellon University to work at The Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh, United States, in 2010. Upon returning to China, Zong Han worked at Pearl Lam Galleries in Shanghai and Hong Kong, and Long March Space in Beijing, where he promoted contemporary Chinese art both locally and internationally. Zong Han holds a B.A. from Shanghai University of International Business and Economics and Master of Arts Management from Carnegie Mellon University.
