stories of art by artists
Last installment for More than [show] business: Post-PopUp at CCA
Sunday, 2 November
Block 38 Malan Road
Studio #01-07
Gillman Barracks
There is often much discussion around how histories within this region are in a period of recuperation while also catching up with current concerns and future forward looking. What are the artistic strategies to revisit, rewrite and intervene in history?
The artist can represent an alternative voice unattached to the responsibilities of official histories. Artists also have a more intimate insight into the interpersonal dynamics that enable the mobility of ideas. Often these personal anecdotes are overlooked for their informality. What remains untold and outside the historical canon?
We asked ourselves more questions and handed them over to the artists:
Whom do you work for?
Is an artist-run space independent?
Is the institution an artwork?
Is space an issue?
What can you do in an artist run space that you can’t do in an institution?
Can the artist take the role of the archivist or historian?
Join us on Sunday as our curators, collaborators and artists unpack these questions. Visit the Facebook events page below for more information and RSVP at: https://www.facebook.com/events/387832401373624/
