27 October 2016 - 26 February 2017

Acclaimed Singaporean artist Francis Ng explores the concepts of space with the context and effects of modernization in a visionary outdoor installation, "ArteFACT; Unearthing Relics of the Future", as an affiliate project of the Singapore Biennale 2016, commissioned by Gillman Barracks and supported by National Arts Council.

Located in the visual art precinct at historically rich Gillman Barracks, ArteFACT was envisioned as a collaborative showcase, and takes the silhouette of a traditional house spliced in the middle and laying beside it is a single disembodied column, commonly seen on colonial buildings around Singapore. Upon stepping inside, the audience was greeted by 23 more columns laid out in two concentric circles that denote the order of time and hinting at our colonial past.
