Mizuma Gallery was established in Singapore’s new art cluster Gillman Barracks in September 2012 by director Sueo Mizuma, well known for curating exhibitions of contemporary Japanese art such as “Jalapagos” and “Zipangu.” The gallery was established in 1994 in Tokyo, and since its opening in Singapore aims for the promotion of Japanese artists in the region as well as introducing new and promising young talents from South East Asia to the international art scene. It has featured the works of Japanese artists including Aida Makoto, Yoshitaka Amano, Tenmyouya Hisashi, and Yamaguchi Akira.   Moreover it has showcased the work of renown East-Asian artists such as Hyung-Koo Kang, and Jun Nguyen-Hatsushiba. It also organises exhibitions showing the creations of Indonesia’s forerunner artists including Nasirun, Indieguerillas, and Angki Purbandono. The gallery also participates yearly in Art Stage Singapore, and Art Basel Hongkong.

Aida Makoto

He draws his inspiration from social, political, and often highly sensitive topics . His work has been exhibited around the world including the Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, the Foundation Cartier Paris, and the Singapore Art Museum where he was awarded a signature prize in 2011.

Yoshitaka Amano

Known for his success in the video game industry as an animation pop culture icon, he aims at the creation of a mythological new world, combining a wide array of eastern, and western cultural influences.

Nasirun

Nasirun visual creation epitomizes the magic syncretism of Javanese spirituality. In a very humanistic and spontaneous way, with vibrant and brave references to local and personal heritage, we capture his paintings as resisting to the transience of mere intellectual or aesthetical strokes. As one of the most loved of living Indonesian artist by the local collectors and art enthusiasts, his broad success confirms the coherence between his works and the artist.

Angki Purbandono

Recognized for his approach in photography trough his scanning method, his works are closely related to his life experiences. His project together with the Prison Art Programs has received positive reviews due to its socially engaging content.

Albert Yonathan Setyawan

A contemporary ceramic artist based in Indonesia and Japan whose works explore the inter-relationship between humans and nature.  He was chosen to represent Indonesia during the 55th Venice Biennale.
